My preparation for ATCL Recital (Piano) exam-Program notes
1. Johann Sebastian Bach,
Toccata no3. in D, BWV 912

Toccata is an Italian word, which means touch.
Bach is a German composer, serving for the church throughout his entire life. He adopted Italian traditional popular dance form and include Fugue dance form as a part of writing his music. The structure of BWV 912 in 3 movements. Opens in Toccata a single-voice in the upper ranges leading to a brief introduction title, developed as a subject of the answer combination of contrast melody. Together with the 2nd movements Adagio in deep expression and flourish end in cheerful Allegro Fugue.

Bach’s music could be seem as the most outstanding in this period because he believed “Music is the only purpose for the glory of God and the recreation of the human spirit.” I not only appreciate  his music, life of purpose but also his humble personality. “Just practice diligently, and it will go very well. You have five fingers on each hand just as healthy as mine.” & “There is nothing very wonderful about it; you have only to hit the right notes at the right moment and the instrument does the rest.” He told a student and his audience. His words always encourage me during my own struggles in the exam. About fingering technique, tight schedule and being nervous on stage. Actually, Bach provided a door out for me deeply.

2. Mozart Sonata in C, K.309

Mozart said “played…all of a sudden a magnificent sonata in C major, out of my head, with a rondo at the end – full of din and sound” C major completely represents Mozart’s music, simplicity, children’s talk and love to pull pranks. These strong individual emotions surely are his character.

We figure out that Mozart ‘s music was truly influenced by the style of the storm and stress expression. Storm and stress are come up in between classical period from German. This movement in order to reflect free express reaction in the literature and the music area. Let’s us explore in his sonata music.

2.1. Allegro con spirito – Exposition
Start with cheerful C major in the first theme then bridge leading to the second theme.

2.2. Andante un poco adagio -development
New theme in new key F major developed in this section.
Starting in slow melody full of introspective lyric feelings throughout the music represents a calm and sympathetic mood. Actually, Mozart used this movement describes a young pianist character“ Probably F major is  representing complaisance & calm color.

2.3. Rondeau. Allegretto grazioso – Recapitulation
A tasteful flowing Rondo in Tonic C in the first theme then no modulation at bridge section and back to tonic key C major.

3. Schubert Impromptu in G flat op.90 no.3

In the Romantic era, one of the great expressive composers represents the art of literary was Franz Peter Schubert. His melody and harmony are notable.

Lieder, means Art song. Impromptu means a short piece of piano music. During Schubert’s 31 years short life, large numbers of composing work focued on piano art song.  Schubert’s Impromptu has always been made up of musical poem themes, for more than 600 Lieder are remarkable in the period of romantic love.

In Impromptu G flat op.90 no.3, the structure in 3 part ternary (A-B-A consisting of three sections.) song form. The key associate softness and richness emotional mood of the music, with long melodic lines in right-hand flows with single notes accompaniment, presenting a lyrical vocal melody  to evoke a very personal mood. It often creates exciting crescendos in a wide range of phasing among lyrical vocal melody.

What people influenced you in your life?

“Think about any people you met before, Who influenced you in your life ?” This is a big impact quest us throughout the class. This is amazing that our teacher shares his story, almost 4 peoples who influence his life almost over 30 years when he looks back. And it’s grateful for the peoples who touched our lives and made it better. They may be a teacher, a friend or any well-being / famous people. For me, I take hours think about… finally, I figure out that I, myself…who I respect for:

C.C

Is my mentor, personal growth counselor.  Almost a year, I try hard to break through myself, this is not my will.  I’m a lay back and passive type person. I need people motivate and encourage me. Thank God, he sends a professional angel for me to guide me release,  give up anything which is not worth for me. This is a really difficult time to step out the comfort zone, but I know with God everything is possible.

For the past few years, I remember I used to ask God give me up, don’t care about me. I know for him everything is possible but for myself I have tiny faith as a tiny seed size, how can I  learn as the bible Matthew 17:20 said “And he says to them, Because of your little faith: for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Be moved from this place to that; and it will be moved; and nothing will be impossible to you.” But God is great, he knows what is good for me and what is the right time for me to ready take up his lectures, he never gives me up, and draw me attention to work with him. I’m alway amazing God accompanies to break through what I had done for the past few months.

The thing that touched me the most is that his wife was having the stage-4th cancer-Malignant melanoma of the skin recently. But God still gives him the strength to care about my personal growth issues in love affair.

It’s so sad to hear about that, both of them has been drop down the pastor rule got God’s calling to take long-term mission aboard next year. Sometimes we really don’t know why, but God gives us love. Absolutely God loves his people and has a big plan for all of us, especially for those working with a mission and working for the Kingdom of God. I pray that they can come across this suffering and be recovered totally. And I can be the eyes to witness what the God has done to create an amazing story for their family, and I can attend their Mission Board Commissioning ceremony next year later.

And to figure out my personality, personal growth as well as the family of origin issues. It is such a big revolution that changed and rebuilt my life.

All in good time- Play groove on piano
